Enjoy a classic apple and walnut crumble made with spices like cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg; perfect as an autumn or a winter dessert.

You will need:

  • 150g plain flour
  • 50g rolled oats
  • 100g light brown sugar
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg pinch salt
  • 150g butter, cut into pieces
  • 120g walnuts, chopped
  • 60g caster sugar, or to taste
  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 800g cooking apples - peeled, cored and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Let's make it:

Step 1:

Place the flour, brown sugar, oats, spices and salt into a large mixing bowl. Add in the cubed butter and rub in with your fingertips until a breadcrumb style mixture is achieved. Stir in the walnuts and set aside.

Step 2:

In a small bowl, mix together 1 tbsp of the caster sugar, cornflour and lemon juice.

Step 3:

In a further small bowl combine the remaining sugar and the spices.

Step 4:

Place the prepared apples into a Slow Cooker in layers, sprinkling the flavoured sugar between and pour over the cornflour mixture.

Step 5:

In a small bowl, mix together 1 tbsp of the caster sugar, cornflour and lemon juice.

Step 6:

In a further small bowl combine the remaining sugar and the spices.

Step 7:

Serve with hot creamy custard or vanilla ice cream or both!
