You will need:
- ¾ cup plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Pinch salt
- 150 ml milk
- 1 egg
- 1½ tbs Nutella (2 tsp per pikelet)
- 125g punnet strawberries, hulled
- 1 tsp caster sugar
Let's make it:
Step 1:
Turn on the Sunbeam Café Style 2-Slice Sandwich Press & Maker. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt. Whisk to combine. Create a well in the centre & pour in the milk and crack in the egg. Whisk together to make a thick batter and transfer to a jug for pouring.
Step 2:
Pour out 3 pikelets, reserving about ½ a cup of batter. Spoon 2 tsp Nutella into the centre of each pikelet. Close the sandwich lid and lock in place so it is hovering just above the pikelets (not touching). Cook until partially set, or some bubbles have formed around the edges, 1 minute.
Step 3:
Open the lid and spoon over the remaining batter (~1Tbsp per pikelet) to cover the Nutella. Close the lid and lock in place so it is just touching the surface of the pikelet and cook until cooked through and browned, 3 minutes. Repeat with remaining pikelet batter and Nutella.
Step 4:
While the pikelets are cooking, halve the strawberries and then toss with the sugar. When pikelet batches are finished, place the strawberries in the press, cut side down. Cook until caramelised, 3 minutes. Serve the Nutella pikelets with the caramelised strawberries and enjoy.
Cook's Tip:
These are fantastic with a dollop of whipped cream and a dusting of icing sugar. For an extra indulgent treat, spread each pikelet with extra Nutella and place on top of each other to form a beautiful stack.
