You will need:
- 500 g beef mince
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 2 tbs finely grated parmesan cheese
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1½ cups passata
- Salt and black pepper, to season
- 1 tsp brown sugar (optional)
- 4 hotdog rolls, split
- ½ cup grated cheese
- ¼ cup loosely packed basil leaves, finely chopped
Let's Make It:
Step 1:
In a large bowl, combine the beef mince, breadcrumbs, egg, parmesan cheese, garlic and onion powder and mix well to combine. Form into 1 tbsp round meatballs (you should get around 20-22).
Step 2:
Place the meatballs into a 22 cm square baking dish and place into the Sunbeam air fryer. Cook at 200°C for 10 minutes. While the meatballs are baking, in a jug, combine the passata with a generous pinch of salt, pepper and the sugar (if using) and mix well to combine.
Step 3:
Pour the seasoned passata over the meatballs and cook for a further 10 minutes at 200°C. Remove the meatballs from the air fryer, then place the split bread rolls into the air fryer and cook for 2 minutes at 200˚C. Remove the rolls from the air fryer and spoon in the meatballs. Sprinkle with grated cheese, then air fry for a further 3 minutes at 200°C.
Step 4:
Divide the meatball subs with cheese between plates and sprinkle with finely chopped basil, then serve immediately.
