    • ‘Steamy’ survey reveals majority of Aussie men fake it to escape heat… in the laundry November 2012

A 'Steamy' survey has been commissioned to investigate the current state of ironing in homes across the country and some intriguing findings have emerged. Most prevalent is the battle of the sexes behaviors over one of the most hotly debated chores in Australian households- ironing.
Australian's demonstrate five unique personal styles when it comes ironing: Ironing Obsessives, Strategic Ironers, Cunning Non Ironers, Lazy Ironers and those that put ironing into the Mundane pile of chores. Digging a little deeper the 'Steamy' survey uncovered more interesting findings about these profiles:

      • 32% of Aussies consider themselves to be strategic ironers; limiting their ironing to the specific items that matter most like work clothes.
      • Strategic ironing is a style most likely to be adopted by males (36%)
      • Accounting for 28% of Australians, the next most popular ironing style is the lazy ironers who try to do as little ironing as they can get away with. This approach to ironing is most prevalent among Baby Boomers (31%) and those living on their own (35%).
      • Another popular ironing style is to simply avoid ironing all together. These cunning non-ironers make up 21% of the population.
      • Only 5% of Australians categorise themselves as ironing obsessives. In their quest to live in a wrinkle free zone, these individuals will iron everything in sight including towels, sheets and even underwear.
      • When it comes to Men Vs. Women in the ironing stakes, 90% of Australian women are less than impressed with men's attitude to ironing.

      Sunbeam's "Steamy' survey revealed:

      • The trend for men to do more ironing than their father is under threat with almost half of today's Gen Y happy to admit that they do less ironing than their father did at the same age.
      • While 42% of Gen X and 39% of Baby Boomers males believe they spend more time ironing than their father, the corresponding figure among Gen Y is only 14%, these findings aren't reflected in women's attitudes to males ironing behaviours.
      • Most women believe that men are lazy when it comes to doing the ironing with 64% agreeing that men will try to get out of the ironing whenever they can.
      • 57% women also agree that men might iron their own shirts but won't do the family laundry, with another 52% believing men would rather walk around in a creased shirt than do the ironing.
      • Over 1 in 3 women would go even further, accusing Australian men of deliberately ironing poorly to avoid doing it in future.

"According to our consumer responses the split for iron purchases is about 80% women and 20% men. Traditionally ironing has been something that women would do as part of the housewife role and this still seems prevalent today." Said Sarah Francis product marketing manager for garment care at Sunbeam.
"With the innovation of products such as the new Sunbeam Steam Generators that help reduce ironing time by half, this will hopefully encourage more men to embrace the entire families ironing." Sarah Francis said.
Sunbeam's new Steam Generators will be released nationally at all major retailers from early October.

Log onto Sunbeam's facebook page during October and November for your chance to win a brand new Steam Generator and a styling session with celebrity stylist Philip Boon.

    • Sunbeam emphasises safety standards in response to TV report April 2012

In response to a media story on Wednesday April 11 about unsafe electrical appliances, Sunbeam Australia wishes to assure its customers of its most rigorous safety standards and correct and clarify information that was stated within this story.

"Sunbeam wishes to reassure its retailers and customers that the Company upholds the highest of safety standards. Our electric blankets carry exclusive SleepPerfect Technology which includes nine levels of safety protection, making Sunbeam Safe & Sound electric blankets safer than any other," Mr David Jackson, CEO of Sunbeam Australia said.

The story featured a range of products listed as "recent recalls" which included an image of a Sunbeam Electric Blanket with the words "recalled" in red across the product.

This voluntary recall was in fact undertaken by Sunbeam almost 10 years ago in 2003 in response to a potential heat controller fault in one of its electric blanket products. At the time, Sunbeam was praised by the Office of Fair Trading for its pro-active action on this matter.

The heat controllers in the previous model of Electric Blankets have not been produced by Sunbeam since 2001/2002 and Sunbeam has had no other recalls on electric since this time.

Relative to the story, Sunbeam wish to highlight the following facts:

      • No research or contact was made by producers with Sunbeam direct or through Sunbeam's PR agency relative to this story or to any other products.

      • The story stated the product was a "recent recall" - more than 10 years ago does  not constitute "recent" and is misleading to consumers.

      • The heat controllers in the previous model of Electric Blankets have not been produced since 2001/2002.

Sunbeam has had no other recalls of electric blankets since this recall.

      • The story did not highlight this was a voluntary recall. This was a company initiated action and was praised at the time by key authorities.

      • Sunbeam's rigorous safety standards are among the highest in the world and its Electric Blankets carry exclusive SleepPerfect technology featuring nine levels of safety protection.

World Class Cooking with Sunbeam Home Appliances

Watched by 2.6 million Australians, last night's MasterChef finale was a fitting end to a great season, as Sunbeam products assisted Kate and Michael in three nail-biting challenges, with Kate emerging as the deserving winner of Series three.

Sweating it out through a mystery box challenge and an invention test in part one of the finale, the contestants embarked on a third challenge, a pressure test set by Noma's infamous head chef, René Redzepi, 'The Snowman - A Dessert of Carrots.'

In the highest rating hour of season three (2.6 million viewers), Sunbeam products featured heavily as Kate and Michael pulled together the complex elements of the quirky dessert.

Sunbeam's StickMaster Pro SM8650 and MixMaster MX8900W featured heavily as the contestants pureed carrots and mixed glossy meringue. Accuracy was key to the successful execution of the snowman, and Sunbeams Electronic scales FS7800 were on hand to measure precise quantities.

"This year, Sunbeam products were featured creating world-class dishes of the highest difficulty and we are pleased to see that our products can really stand up in some of the toughest international culinary challenges," said Cowley.

In a season where many of the key finalists were dessert-pros, sweet dishes often seemed to take centre stage, with Sunbeam appliances never far away in the production of some remarkable dishes.

Last night's episode of MasterChef was Channel Ten's top rating program for 2011 and has been a consistent ratings success throughout the 14 week season.

As well as Sunbeam products being used by contestants, Sunbeam's Designed To Help When it Counts TVC was featured throughout the series and coupled with their sponsorship of the popular MasterClass section of the website, MasterChef has proven to be a winning partnership for the brand in its third season.

    • 5.74 million Australians tune in to watch Sunbeam star in MasterChef finale July 2010

Adam Liaw may have taken out the MasterChef title last night but there was more than one winner, with Sunbeam triumphing as a major sponsor of the highest rating Non‐Sporting event in Australian television history.

A peak audience of 5.74 million viewers nationally were glued to their sets for MasterChef Australia - The Winner Announced, with a peak of 5.49 million viewers tuned in for MasterChef Australia - Finale Night.

Alignment with a show of such unprecedented popularity has proven invaluable for Sunbeam, reporting significant upswings in demand, sales and massive order replenishments for their products as a direct result of the sponsorship.

Six Sunbeam products were featured in last night's epic finale consisting of three challenges: the Café Series Mixmaster (MX8900) whipped egg whites into perfect peaks, the Blender (PB9500) was used to create smooth Guava puree and the Stickmaster Pro (SM8650) assisted with Callum's incredible chicken sauce. The Café Series Food Processor (LC8900), the Mixmaster (MX8900) and the Ice cream Maker (GL8200) also contributed to the magical dishes served up in the hotly contested finale.

"We are thrilled with how Australians have embraced cooking and the MasterChef format, which has given Sunbeam a fantastic platform to showcase its diverse and versatile product range. To see how our appliances have helped the contestants create amazing dishes has been very satisfying and enjoyable to watch," CEO David Jackson commented.

Sunbeam's sponsorship extended far beyond product placement on the program. Placement of Sunbeam's catchy 'You are my Sunbeam' TVC just before the winner was announced, has proven valuable. A consumer promotion 'Dine with a Master Chef' involving Bécasse restaurant's acclaimed chef, and regular on the show, Justin North, attracted significantly more entries than Sunbeam's last three promotions.

"The MasterChef phenomenon has been fantastic for our brand to be a part of and we look forward to continuing this momentum with Junior MasterChef and other exciting initiatives in the future," said Jackson.

Sunbeam is a major sponsor of Junior MasterChef, due to air in October 2010.

    • SUNBEAM DOMINATES AUSTRALIA’S FAVOURITE COOKING SHOWS! June 2010

Tuesday, 29 June 2010 - Sunbeam has knocked out Breville to secure an exclusive product agreement on the second series of My Kitchen Rules, reinforcing its position as the preferred small appliance provider across Australia's highest rating kitchen TV shows.

On the back of its prolific partnership with the second series of MasterChef, currently screening on Network Ten, the My Kitchen Rules product agreement is the icing on the cake for Sunbeam, and sees the brand corner the explosive cooking show market.

David Jackson, Sunbeam CEO, said, "These agreements provide strategic brand alignment for Sunbeam and a powerful brand visual for consumers, crucial to cementing a leadership position in the small appliance category. We now have a strong brand presence in two of the most influential Kitchen TV shows."

"We know this strategy works - our customer care team receives countless calls about the products used on MasterChef and we have seen a significant sales uplift especially for the SM8650 StickMaster® Pro and the LC8900 Café Series® Food Processor" (Source: GfK data May 09 vs May 10), Jackson continued.

Series two of MasterChef is attracting an average of 1.762 million viewers every night, while My Kitchen Rules first season averaged more than 1.3 million viewers each night.

These key agreements see Sunbeam continue to invest in the food preparation categories, making it a priority to provide retailers with all the materials they need to drive consumers in-store. Outstanding POS and promotional opportunities have always been a priority for Sunbeam and will remain a strong focus over the coming year.

"Sunbeam products are designed to help, with the features and performance excellence that consumers expect" says Jackson. "To align our products with MasterChef and My Kitchen Rules is an obvious response to Australia's burgeoning love of all things gourmet. It drives home the connection between the brand consumers trust and the kitchen essentials they need in their own food preparation."

Sydney, September 5, 2010 - Sunbeam's much loved espresso machines, the Café Series EM6910 and Arista 5900, will soon offer additional flexibility and ease of use as pod compatible models hit the market this Father's Day.

Users now have greater choice with how they make coffee: whether using pods to make a quick morning espresso or grinding beans the traditional way, consumers can enjoy fresh, delicious espresso in the comfort of their own home.

Coffee pods are a perfectly measured, compact parcel of ground coffee that you place into the group handle of your machine. Cutting out the mess, time and effort that can be associated with grinding your own beans and gauging the ideal amount of ground coffee per cup, pods are the ideal solution for achieving a delicious espresso fast.

    • Camilla Gets Steamy with Sunbeam March 2010

9th March 2010 Sydney - Kaftan queen Camilla Franks has embarked on a hot new relationship with iconic Australian brand Sunbeam, as the face of its innovative new VerveTM iron range. Featuring revolutionary steam shot technology, a stylish design and vibrant colours, VerveTM is this season's hottest must-have fashion accessory.

The partnership aims to promote the importance of a good iron to protecting the investment made in fashion. As Danielle Thompson, Marketing Manager for Sunbeam irons explains, "People spend thousands of dollars each year on designer clothing, but give little thought to the tools they use to care for them. By working with Camilla we hope to educate consumers that, with a good quality iron, you can care for anything at home, from cotton and linen to silk and chiffon. With VerveTM, Australian women and men can protect their investment in fashion," Thompson says.

Camilla advocates Sunbeam's VerveTM irons as an essential step in the care of her signature kaftans, and the only iron range she recommends for at-home care.

"All my collections have been hand designed and are extremely delicate," said Camilla Franks. "In the past I've been hesitant to recommend ironing my garments, but Sunbeam's Verve range uses steam so effectively that I have no qualms about using these irons for garment care and finishing touches. I trust Sunbeam entirely when it comes to irons."

As part of Sunbeam's commitment to Fashion and educating people about the importance of ironing to protect their fashion investment, Sunbeam will be supporting Camilla at this year's Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, in Sydney on May 3rd.

Sunbeam's Verve™ iron range is available from 15th April 2010.

    • FULL STEAM AHEAD WITH SUNBEAM’S VERVE™ COLLECTION March 2010

9th March 2010, Sydney - Sunbeam's Verve™ collection of irons are the latest must-have fashion accessory. Designed with a revolutionary "extreme" shot of steam, Verve™ protects your investment in fashion and is the essential addition to every wardrobe.

Sunbeam has been the expert in ironing for more than 85 years and is continually first on the scene with new technology and cutting edge features. Its latest advance - Extreme Shot of Steam technology - is setting the trend for iron innovation. Producing an impressive 80 grams of steam per minute, this high-pressure shot of steam is akin to that of a steam station iron. It effortlessly removes stubborn creases yet is gentle enough to steam delicate fabrics - keeping anything from wardrobe staples to luxe silk frocks in mint condition.

The Verve™ range offers a choice of three soleplate surfaces, so fashionistas can select the finish that best suits their wardrobe. Verve™ 62 and Verve™ 65 feature an easy clean Teflon® Platinum Pro soleplate, while the Verve™ 66 shines in classic, durable Stainless Steel. The top of the range Verve™ 68 boasts Sunbeam's exclusive scratch-resistant Resilium® finish, which glides effortlessly across all types of clothing and protects delicate fabrics.

After Verve™ has made an outfit red carpet ready, there's no need to worry about accidentally leaving it on if running fashionably late. Selected Verve™ irons have a safety auto-off feature which turns the iron off in case you forget. The power will only reconnect when the iron is moved.

Verve™ is the perfect accessory for those who desire individuality. Designed to turn heads with their fresh, bright colours, Verve's four stylish models are guaranteed to stand out in a sea of white. With turquoise, jade, royal purple and gold to liven up your ironing board, it would be a sin to store these irons away.

Fashion conscious shoppers on a budget should look out for Sunbeam's all new Pro Steam® range. Lightweight and a breeze to use, these sassy irons offer variable steam settings, fine mist spray and vertical shot of steam.

Like Verve™, Pro Steam® flaunts the season's hottest new colours - available in watermelon with a Teflon® non-stick soleplate, or lime green with a polished aluminium soleplate.

    • Sunbeam Celebrates a Successful Sponsorship as Isabella takes out the Junior MasterChef title November 2010

Sunbeam Celebrates a Successful Sponsorship as Isabella takes out the Junior MasterChef title

A peak of 2.24 million Australians tuned in last night to see 12 year old Queenslander Isabella crowned as Australia's first ever Junior MasterChef winner.

Partnering with the MasterChef franchise has been a masterstroke for Sunbeam, with the brand enjoying consistently strong target audience exposure in a media vehicle that continues to go from strength to strength.

A consistent ratings winner with an average audience of 1.48 million per episode, Junior MasterChef has proven a strong spin off format of one of the most successful television shows in Australian history, continuing to trump other television cooking shows such as Seven's Iron Chef and My Kitchen Rules.

The Junior MasterChef finale saw Isabelle face off against Jack to complete a gruelling two step challenge, a mystery box featuring seafood, quail and veal and an Adriano Zumbo 'Pear Perfection' dessert pressure test.

A variety of Sunbeam products starred in the finale including the Mixmaster (MX8900), the Handmixer (JM6600) and the Stickmixer (SM8650).

Sunbeam products were consistently featured throughout the series, being used to create sophisticated dishes ranging from scallop mousse to raspberry coulis and the Mixmaster (MX8900) starring in the Donna Hay chocolate cake challenge.

In addition to supplying products for use in the competition, Sunbeam also provided prize packs to all contestants, encouraging them to continue in their cooking endeavors with the Sunbeam Mixmaster (MX8900) and Stickmixer (SM8650).

"Partnering with MasterChef is a great way for us to reach consumers in a variety of ways and taking a 360 approach to the sponsorship is very important to us," said Nicole Cowley, Product Marketing Manager, Food Preparation & Cooking, Sunbeam.

"Using multi-platform product integration, we are taking advantage of product use in the show, as well as general placement, advertising, web presence and awarding contestants with Sunbeam prize packs," Cowley said.

In addition to on-screen activation, Sunbeam also has a 'Shop Like a MasterChef' promotion active, offering consumers a chance to win groceries for a year, in partnership with Coles.

"We are looking forward to future involvement in television cooking shows as it is proving a very successful strategy for our brand," Cowley concluded.

Alternatively, simply lift the BBQ off its trolley and take the GB2100 in the car to picnics or camping. This trolley also features a shelf for the gas bottle to sit, keeping the area around the BBQ clean and uncluttered - perfect for small entertaining areas.

Despite its compact design, the GB2100 hosts a range of other stellar features, including a reversible thick cast iron open grill and reversible hot plate, stainless steel flame tamer, piezo ignition and a die cast aluminium roasting hood with 304 stainless steel wrap and informative temperature gauge.

    • Sunbeam lending a hand at Wayside October 2009

SYDNEY: 19th October 2009: The Wayside Chapel, in Kings Cross for 45 years, every week sees people presenting themselves to show their life after addiction and after homelessness.

There is always hope and there is always good stories taking place. There are always people leaving the street to set up house and set up a new life. The move to a new life is not easy by any measure. It's tough to move into a unit with nothing and try to establish some kind of normality.

Local resident and Sunbeam employee, Zoe Tattersall, recognized the difficulties being faced by those about to move into a new home. "There are quite a few hoops to jump through to be approved for Departmental Housing, so it seemed like a good idea to put together some house warming presents for successful applicants"

"I put a proposal to David Jackson (Sunbeam CEO) that we donate some Sunbeam products to the Wayside. David was happy to approve the idea and allowed me to start choosing and sourcing the products over the next few months, and the Sunbeam Start-up Kit was born. We put together 5 kits with a variety of essential household products such as a toaster, a kettle, a cooking appliance, a heater and an iron", Zoe Tattersall said.

Last month, Zoe and David Jackson presented the first batch of Sunbeam Start-up kits, during the weekly cooking class at Wayside.

Pastor of the Wayside Chapel, Rev. Graham Long appreciates Sunbeam's gesture for those who 'fall by the Wayside'. "Sunbeam has recognised that the best place to offer support is at the very moment when people bravely step out on a pathway to a better life."

"Practical help that has come because Sunbeam is lending a hand", Rev Long said.

The Wayside Chapel has provided unconditional love, care and support for people on and around the streets of Kings Cross since 1964. Each year, thousands of people visit the Wayside for assistance in gaining equitable access to essential health, welfare and related services. The Wayside Chapel is well known for its Youth Service, Community Services Centre and Day to Day Living Programs.

    • Sunbeam quenches summer thirst September 2008
"As summer approaches it is imperative to keep hydrated and replenish fluids to maintain the body's water balance. In fact, the Heart Foundation recommends that Australians drink at least one to two litres of water a day and encourages additional consumption in hot weather. With its 5.6 litre capacity, the new Sunbeam Water Purifier and Chiller WF7800 ensures there's plenty of fresh, clean water on tap for the whole family. While encouraging families to forgo sugary soft drinks and cordial, purified water also works out to be a cheaper alternative to buying bottled water - allowing families to benefit from the affordability of consuming filtered, chilled water at home. Chilled to a refreshing eight degrees or served at room temperature, the fast pump action of the Sunbeam Water Purifier &Chiller purifies unfiltered water instantly. Convenient to use, the clear tank also indicates when it's time to refill from the tap. With the added endorsement of the Australian Dental Association, the Sunbeam filter does not remove fluoride from the purified drinking water. It does, however, remove giardia, cryptosporidium and reduces other contaminants such as lead, mercury and common pesticides, making it suitable for all water qualities around Australia. The new water chiller also features a brushed finish to fit perfectly with modern interiors."
    • What would inspire you to iron? August 2008

Whitehouse Institute of Design, Australia graduate, Alicia Barnes, has drawn inspiration from the bush for her winning design in the Sunbeam ironing board cover competition.

As part of its support of the design school, Sunbeam invited students to create an ironing board cover that would 'inspire them to iron.' The winning design would then be produced on a limited edition ironing board.

"I wanted to design something that was young and funky that hadn't been done before for an ironing board cover," said talented graduate Alicia Barnes. "My goal was to create a cover that would brighten up the ironing environment and make the task more enjoyable,"

The winning 'Emerald Feathers' design captures a slice of nature with its bright green budgerigars that seem blissfully perched on the ironing board. The bold design makes a dramatic fashion statement that is sure to appeal to those who want to iron in style.

Sunbeam's support of Whitehouse Institute of Design, Australia is part of its 'Protect Your Investment in Fashion' initiative, which aims to highlight to fashion-conscious consumers just how important a good iron is in protecting garments. "It's all about looking after the look," said Danielle McConnell, Sunbeam category manager - homecare. "Our partnership with Whitehouse gives us a great insight into coming fashion trends, and as an Australian company focused on design and innovation, it's fantastic to be able to support the next generation of Australian fashion designers."

    • Help clean indoor air pollution June 2008

According to research from the University of Technology, Sydney, indoor air can be as much as 10 times more polluted than outdoor air(1). The new Sunbeam Air Purifier is designed to cleanse the air inside the home by removing dust, dust mites, pollen and skin cells from pets and humans with 99 percent efficiency.

Poor indoor air quality can affect general health and wellbeing by causing respiratory problems, a runny nose, headaches or a fit of the sneezes. Many of the particles that make indoor air unhealthy are smaller than 10 microns - which makes detection difficult.

The good news is that there are simple ways you can begin to clean the air in your home to help your family breathe easy. Introduce indoor plants, dust and vacuum regularly, limit the amount of cigarette smoke inside, keep pets outside and introduce the Sunbeam Air Purifier.

The Sunbeam Air Purifier uses an advanced four stage filtration process which includes a pre-filter, carbon filter, main filter and ioniser. The ioniser works by releasing negative ions that attract dust and pollen to help the air purification process.

With very low running costs and ease of portability the Sunbeam Air Purifier is an effective solution to fresher indoor air.

Not only is the design a sophisticated addition to the home's décor. The appliance is also easy to use with its stylish remote control and three cleaning levels which can be set to low, medium and high.

The Sunbeam Air Purifier Model AC8500 is available from leading electrical and department stores nationally. RRP: $199.00

Sunbeam has updated the look and style of the traditional column heater with the launch of its innovative and modern Smartheat™ oil filled radiator range - designed and engineered in Australia for the Australian environment. Generating both convection and radiant heat, the Sunbeam Smartheat™ range continues to emit radiant heat even after the element has been switched off - delivering efficient and comfortable warmth throughout the home.

It's a perfect addition to the bedroom thanks to its whisper-quiet operation and humidifier cup which helps prevent air from drying out. The new range also features safety overheat protection, integrated cord storage and built-in castors for easy relocation to any area of the home.

    • Sunbeam Ecowarm™ Panel Heater May 2008

For an efficient and effective heating solution, Sunbeam is launching the 2000W Ecowarm™ Panel Heater. It combines a convection element as well as an innovative stone block, which is heated by a ceramic element, for maximum heating efficiency. Much like bricks are heated by the sun in summer, the stone block will hold its heat. Once the desired room temperature is reached, the convection element can be switched off and the ECO mode switched on, saving energy. The stone block will then continue to maintain a steady temperature.

With no moving parts, the Ecowarm™ panel heater is also ideal for people with asthma or allergies as it doesn't move air and dust around the room, while the humidifier ensures the air doesn't dry out like other heating types. Other features include three heat settings, full function remote control and ionizer.

    • Compact ceramic heaters May 2008

For compact, efficient heating solutions, Sunbeam offers a stylish range of ceramic heaters. These contemporary and lightweight heaters provide fast heat when and wherever it's needed, with assuring safety features. The ceramic element self-regulates the energy flow depending on the temperature and if it gets too hot, electricity cannot pass through it. The element also operates at such a low heat setting that it will not ignite even highly flammable materials such as tissue paper - making this range a very safe heating option.

Featuring two heat settings and Sunbeam's safety overheat protection, these portable heaters can be easily moved around the home and are ideal for those with limited space and storage.
